This class will not only look at international volunteerism, it will also examine reasons why there is a world-wide need for volunteering. Issues may include refugees, homelessness, HIV/AIDS, poverty, human rights, animal rights, environmental destruction, hunger and starvation, etc. International aid and volunteer organizations involved with these global issues will be studied and researched. Some of these related organizations include UNICEF, UNHCR, Habitat for Humanity, Amnesty International and Doctors Without Borders. Videos and guest speakers will be included and students will be encouraged to raise awareness about these topics in the local community. Students will be expected to participate as a volunteer at a local or international volunteer organization.
