My research and teaching interests are in three main areas: vocabulary acquisition, discourse analysis, and translation. For about five years I conducted research on vocabulary in media texts, building a corpus and using it to study various aspects of media language. My interest in discourse analysis has been chiefly on contrastive aspects of spoken and written discourse in Japanese and English, including the acquisition of L2 discourse by Japanese learners. More recently, I have been combining my interest in media texts with translation studies to examine the translation of media texts between Japanese and English.
